People in Picture from left to right: Back Row: Aaron Fischer, Nanette Brown holding Valeria, Teacher Karina’s daughter, Mattie Gadsby, & Fran Forman. Middle Row: Heather Tillery, Maria Nuno, Karina Ayala, Silvia Rubio, Maggie Suarez, & Maggie Espinoza. Front Row: Emelia Mendoza, & Martha Salcido.

The accreditation process was a new experience for all staff at JC Washington; except for Teacher Heather.  Teacher Heather was also a part of Guadalupe’s accreditation.  The process took a lot of dedication and the willingness to change and try new methods. JC Washington’s goal was to demonstrate that they have been a quality preschool, and the accreditation visit was instrumental to demonstrate the assessor that JC Washington staff members understand and function using the NAEYC guidelines.

The day of the accreditation visit was very short.  The assessor was scheduled from 6 am to 2:30 pm, but finished by 11:45 am  Although she could not comment on the visit and the outcomes, she did state that she was leaving early because her job was made easier and because everything was in place.  She also stated that our outdoors environment truly shows that we have a clear understanding of what the outdoor classroom truly means

Last of all, Maggie Suarez wants to thank all of JC Washington staff for all their hard work and dedication.

Muddy Day at Fillmore

On July 30th. the children and staff of Fillmore Head Start had a muddy day. First the teachers filled sensory tables and shallow pools with dirt that was donated to the center. The children added water to the sensory tables and pools to see the outcome of the dirt and water mixture. The children had a great time mixing, pouring, smearing, smelling, feeling, squeezing and playing in the mud. As you look at the pictures, some children dove right into the mud experience and some children took their time exploring the mud. By the end, the majority of the children were muddy all over.

The parents were great support on our first muddy day experience. They supported their child and center by bringing towels and extra clothes for their children to use that day.

The children played with the mud in different ways. Pictures that were taken reflect mud pie making, giving teachers facials, sharing mud from bucket to bucket, pouring the mud on their bodies, jumping in the mud, making muddy footprints, exploring mud play and playing in the mud by themselves or with friends. The teachers did say the mud was very soothing on their feet and almost felt as good as a pedicure.

At the end of the mud play experience the children were rinsed off with water, dried off with their towel and they put clean clothes back on. The mud day was great day at Fillmore Head Start
